It's not the kind of horror you usually get in movies. It's crafted in a more subtle way and there is a way of creating mystery that I particularly enjoy. I want to get answers and I hope I will not be disappointed later on. I am involved and hope it will stay that way. The ending twist is monumental by the way.
One of the best productions from Netflix! Well written characters, creepy story and you invest in what happens to them. Enjoyed every episode!
Ok - so 3 bad reviews so far. I'm going to go the opposite and say I really enjoyed it. It's seems people want all action these days, what this programme is doing is taking its time to build story and atmosphere. I feel the comments on the kids acting is pretty harsh as most of them had very little to do in this episode. The scares were good and really enjoyed the last couple of minutes. If it keeps this up it will be a great series.
This was super well done! And it's only the first episode! The acting is super good so far, even some of the child performances. I also thought the scares were really well done, the opening act being perhaps the spookiest part. Genuinely the most scared I've been in a while. Above all of this, we already have some pretty well established characters! I'm very excited for the rest.

- TriviaWhen Olivia interrupts Steven and Mrs. Dudley's conversation, a face can be seen behind her as she moves through the door frame. It is gone when she turns to leave after inquiring about Luke.
- GoofsWhen Nell calls Hugh in the middle of the night, he is in Jacksonville, FL. He tells her he will drive to Orlando to catch a flight to LA to be with her. Jacksonville has its own airport, and Orlando is over two hours away by car. Driving to Orlando to catch a plane makes no sense in an emergency situation.

Steven Crain: I've seen a lot of ghosts. Just not the way you think. A ghost can be a lot of things. A memory, a daydream, a secret. Grief, anger, guilt. But, in my experience, most times they're just what we want to see. Most times, a ghost is a wish.
- Alternate versionsThe DVD and Blu-ray releases feature new and extended scenes:
- The Crain parents talk about having a hard time sleeping in the new house - they say it's too quiet, but then start to hear the house making sounds, which they blame on the pipes.
- More details are added to the story the woman tells to Steven about the ghost of her husband visiting her at night.
- Mrs. Dudley tells a young Steven in the kitchen, "In the night, in the dark."
- Steven sees a car wreck while driving. His publisher calls him and asks him how the meeting went with the woman who says her husband visited her at night. He tells his publisher, but his publisher says Steven doesn't sound too enthusiastic. Steven then pitched an idea about haunted highways. As the two discuss what will sell, his publisher suggests that he write a sequel to "The Haunting of Hill House," which visibly irritates Steven.
