Other than to expose Syd as sadistic and evil in her own right (framing the a-hole male schoolmate, and her mom's boyfriend for extremely serious crimes), this was another episode of nothing.
I know there are fb campaigns to manipulate votes on other shows here, judging by the unbalanced numbers every episode, I wonder if there's one for this show?

I like this show but this episode is just garbage.. just watch last 5 minutes of this episode, you won't miss a thing. You're welcome!

Over the course of the episode, the narrative keeps changing from Syd's desire to connect with others to being bullied and self-harming until you realize the common thread that connects all of these events, namely the human strive of survival. Adversity is what makes us stronger. I bet it sounds clichéd to a lot of people who think have had a tough life (I can hear them mumbling: "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger) but for those of us who truly suffered like David and Syd, this episode is a revelation that had a great impact on me (a positive one). Possibly a greater impact than countless self-help books that I've read or therapy sessions that I've attended and for that, I think this episode has been the best one yet thus far, thank you!
I am writing this review because i see that the ones before don't give out any respect to a masterpiece.I think this episode deserves 9-10 just because the way it was build up with psychological elements.I loved how the meanings where hidden between the lines. The episode had so many different layers of thought processes. It shined a light about lot of different concepts of ideas of why are we the way we are in what point of life we experience this things that make us change the way we see the world and see our self. The last 10 minutes just took my mind into the show and spit it back out at the end.I have to say this was true psychological masterpiece. That's why i love this show and i am sad to see that lot of people do not understand the greatness behind it.
Out of the 12 parts there are two that I'd say are possibly the best episodes but part 12 is my personal favorite of the series this far and is the fourth of season 2.
This episode left a huge imprint on me leaving me with huge emotional impact executed so incredibly, that I barely blinked this whole episode.
Syds maze is much like mine and much like David's. Facing adversary and it molding and shaping you to become stronger as an individual! The speech given at the very end is so moving and gripping!! It leaves me flabbergasted that anyone can be complaining about filler episodes or weirdness when these first 4 episodes have felt like a thunder storm!!
Thank you FX for renewing this series for a much deserved third season and being a cable provider that sticks with critically acclaimed shows despite low viewership!!! More networks need to take note. Besides canceling Terriers, I love FX!
With Ryan Murphy leaving for Netflix, something tells me theyll wsnt Noah Hawley with his 2 package deal (Fargo, legion) for a long time to come.
Dont listen to the negative reviews but if you agree that it's not up your alley, that's just fine ONLY this very episode is so brilliant that I cant believe anyone not feeling affected by it.
Simply stunning and dazzling! Look me in the face and tell me there wasnt a story behind this style????

- TriviaThe book Syd is reading as a teenager is "The Ring of Brightest Angels Around Heaven", by Rick Moody, a collection of stories about loneliness. It obviously resonates with how Syd feels.
- GoofsSyd, as an adolescent, is shown reading a book while wearing gloves. While she has learned to be cautious about touching other people, wearing gloves constantly would be detrimental to her skin and she would not be wearing them if she didn't need to.
- Quotes
Syd Barrett: Baby, God loves the sinners best 'cause our fire burns bright, bright, bright. Burn with me.
