    A very different Okabe

I was really looking forward to this series, but what greeted me was a very different okabe. We all know the reason why and we certainly did not get any of the silly antics of Okabe which made the series so entertaining, even if annoying some times. The bulk of the episode is setting u0p the backstory and they do it very well, but the end is excellent and really gives you a clue that this will be more than an introspective Okabe rediscovering his evil scientist persona.

    The World Without Her

This first episode sets a completely different mood from the original series. Right away, you feel that this Okabe is not the same. He's not the confident, eccentric mad scientist anymore-he's quieter, subdued, and clearly broken. The trauma of failing to save Kurisu has shaped him deeply. Seeing him attend therapy and avoid the lab tells you everything you need to know about where he is mentally. But what really stands out is how the show balances familiar characters with a completely different emotional weight. Mayuri tries to bring light, but there's always sadness behind her smile. The introduction of Professor Leskinen and the new AI research feels subtle, but intriguing. The pacing is slow and focused on atmosphere, and it works. You can tell this story will explore more mature, painful themes. A strong and emotional start, with just enough mystery to keep you hooked.

Maho Hiyajo: Hey, you. I'm talking to you. Which way is the staff room?

Rintarou Okabe: Huh? Uh, this is a college seminar conference.

Maho Hiyajo: Of course I know that! It's the same thing over and over.

      [reaches into her bag]

      Rintarou Okabe: Over and over?

Maho Hiyajo: You're the fourth person to tell me that since coming here.

[holds up a Guest ID badge on a lanyard]

Rintarou Okabe: Viktor Chondria University, Brain Science Institute? Oh, I get it. You found this and...

Maho Hiyajo: Fourth time to hear *that*, too!

[turns the badge around to show her name, date of birth, and sex]

Rintarou Okabe: Viktor Chondria University has middle schoolers?

Maho Hiyajo: If you're gonna be dumb, do it elsewhere! There's no university that takes middle schoolers.

      [points to her DOB: 11/02/1989]

      Rintarou Okabe: 21 years old?

Maho Hiyajo: In other words, I'm a full-grown woman! Not in middle school, not elementary school, and not preschool either! Got a problem?

Rintarou Okabe: But... Never mind. I was in the wrong. Forgive me.

      [bows]

      Rintarou Okabe: I'm sorry.

Maho Hiyajo: Hmph. Whatever. The same thing happens no matter what country I go to.

Rintarou Okabe: [quietly sarcastic] Big surprise.

Maho Hiyajo: Did you say something?

      Rintarou Okabe: N-no, nothing.
