The Gladiolus, Ild Tsetseg

I was mesmerized by this film. The scenic beauty was well shot.

It did have a lot of jump cuts which made it hard to follow at times. But considering where it was made it is a sleeping gem. I just wish they had more information on the actors.

Award winner it should be.

I don't want to be over critical of this film because Mongolia is hardly a hotbed of movie making and it was ambitious to try to make a thriller considering the lack of experience. The trouble is , it shows.

It's the story of a private school teacher who accidentally murders her daughter's not so good boyfriend and an about-to-retire detective risks his career to help her get away with the murder.

Firstly the good points. It looks great. Apart from the silly arty shots like looking into a frying pan or reflections in pictures , its not bad, Secondly the man playing the cop looks perfect for the role. The Bad points - It's absolutely all over the place. The scenes are cut up in random order and it makes no sense. Also , ( and this might not be the filmmakers fault ) The subtitles on Amazon are hilarious. They look like they were translated by a 4 year old child. I want to give this a one out of five because it's that bad but because it's a Mongolian film , and i've never seen one before , i'll give it 1.5 .
