Among Neighbors

I was trying to leave a review which somehow disappeared due to a glitch on the imbd system. Sorry to say I can not reproduce it, so I will just say that the story is very compelling and richly textured. The magical realism is terrific to tell the story. Liked the use of animation.

So hard to believe the things that happened while filming that brought this story to a heart rending closure. A very talented filmmaker, and please realize this film is a tribute to some Polish citizens who stood up to a sad event in their past. The Polish people have suffered and their legacy is the same as the Jewish people who became part of this town. Their blood is intermingled with their history.

Every town has things that go wrong. This is by no means an attack on the Polish nation. It should be seen as a triumph of people over WW2. Long live Poland and the Jewish people who returned.

This film shows things you were told about, right in front of you. Even if it isn't the same as the personal experiences you heard, it still is essentially the same in total context. It wasn't limited to one person and place. And, for people who didn't hear any of it before, it provides them with an immersive lesson.

A must see. Brilliantly composed alternation of past and present. Striking use of animation interspersed with past and present interviews. Very emotionally moving. Important to see to see accurate respresentation of historical events and emotional impact that still resonates deeply with subjects of film.

A remarkable magic of documenting work that took over ten years and shows the unexpected remedy of two people who refuse to forget. Pieces come together only through the skill of the film-maker contrary to the forces of deniel and conformity and old age.

Elegant combination of animation and live shots which form a moving blend of past and present. The absence of material from the period says everything about the attempt to hide, to forget. But there is no forgetting thanks to this film.

It is a testement to deep darkness that was in peoples hearts against the current wave of history-editing. Must watch!
