    Hardball

Donnie Wahlberg catches a case involving a school shooting at a local inner city high school where the principal Ernie Hudson is at his wit's end. Later on a special ed teacher Flor De Lis Perez is assaulted in the high school as part of a gang initiation. That part of the story nearly ends in a tragedy.

Bridget Moynahan is working on an organized crime case and it saddens her that an old colleague and friend Raphael Sbarge now in private practice has himself hip deep in corruption with a gang that shoots its way out of trouble.

But on the brighter side Tom Selleck as police commissioner gets to go toe to toe with Governor David Zayas when one of the Governor's staff is an innocent bystander in a shooting. The Grand Jury clears the officer, so does the police review board. Still Zayas wants the officer's shield and is threatening to sic his Attorney General on the NYPD.

Selleck finds some ammunition and has no hesitation using a little hardball to protect his department. That's what really makes this episode worth seeing.

Governor Martin Mendez: Are you like one of those guys who like to deliver bad news in person?

Frank Reagan: I don't have bad news.

Governor Martin Mendez: You dump the cop that shot my guy?

      Frank Reagan: No.

      Governor Martin Mendez: Bad news.

Frank Reagan: Depends on what you compare it to.

Governor Martin Mendez: What's that mean?

Frank Reagan: It means everything's relative. See, it turns out that Lawrence Cobb wasn't drinking alone the night he was shot.

Governor Martin Mendez: So? He's a single guy. God bless.

Frank Reagan: He was with a married woman.

Governor Martin Mendez: That's on her, not on him.

Frank Reagan: Except she is married to his boss, your chief of staff.

      Governor Martin Mendez: Sheesh.

Frank Reagan: Turns out it's been going on for over a year.

Governor Martin Mendez: Too bad the shot missed Cobb's nuts. Now that would've been justice.
