    Very good episode.

Excellent plot line. And a welcome relief from the writer's habit of having us deal with multiple plots in the same episode. (Some episodes feature problems with Sherlock's father, Joan wants a baby, Joan has a one-night stand, Marcus has a new job, etc. And then, in the next episode, all these subplots are gone as if they never existed.)

In any case, this episode was refreshing and enjoyable. With the exception of a not-too exhausting diversion into a discussion of and solution to Marcus's trials and tribulations, there was a good mystery, with Joan's input being decisive in the solution. I love this show and hope that the writers can settle down, and that CBS will realize that they have a gem on their hands and stop fiddling with broadcast days and renew this unique, enjoyable show featuring a great cast.

The "Perfect Mate" dolls are an obvious nod to RealDoll, though there are some differences: RealDoll dolls retail at $4,000+ for females ($6,000+ for males) and are somewhat customizable. However, their Elementary counterpart (which retails for $15,000 as stated on the show) also contain an artificial intelligence while RealDolls are just silicone sex dolls.

At 41:42, the shot changes and suddenly Sherlock's hands are in his pockets.
    • Quotes

Professor Baynes: Going to sweat me in the box, are you?

Sherlock Holmes: It's just a room. You've made an error in judgement about me. About the friendships I've made. Since coming to New York, I've had the great privilege to be called friend by some of the finest people on earth. I didn't deserve their friendship, but they gave it none the less.

      [pause, then softly, directly]

Sherlock Holmes: There's nothing I wouldn't do for Marcus Bell, and I will not allow you to stand in the way of his success.

      [Hands Baynes a business card]

      Professor Baynes: What's this?

Sherlock Holmes: It's a contact of mine. He's currently looking for the new head of security for a major company. I recommended you for the job. And, in truth, I think you would excel at it. You always said you've never achieved the career heights to which you were due. Well, now's your chance. The starting salary will make your head spin. You'll resign your position at the college effective immediately. And someone else will step in to teach your class.

Professor Baynes: Meaning your man, Bell, will be allowed in. You'll win. Again.

Sherlock Holmes: If you decide not to accept my offer, if you persist in standing in his way, then you'll make an enemy of me. You might have seen me as en enemy before, but I assure you, Baynes... I never was.

      [Softly]

Sherlock Holmes: You'll not like having me as an enemy.

      [With a small smile]

Sherlock Holmes: The choice is yours.
