Looking forward to seeing this series.Just finished Michael Connelly's book that this is based on
Bosch appears to be involved in an undercover operation following a case involving opioid narcotics.
This is a decent season's first with a worthwhile case for Bosch and what appears to be more scrutiny of his past, but after a memorable climax to series 4 it will take a significant hook to generate the same level of interest.
For me the hook is not quite there come in this episode, but I appreciate the writers have to lay the foundations for a new arc and I have to be patient. Also it takes the time to establish where certain characters are at this point given the time elapsed from the previous series.
All actors are on good form, particularly Titus Welliver.
The visuals are strong as always. This one includes a good staging of a car crash and another realistic murder scene.

Not even close to the book. Spending the whole show explaining what's going on to others.
I've enjoyed several of the Bosch series seasons, possibly more so because I have not read the books. Many reviewers seem to find Titus Welliver's presentation as Bosch unbelievable or unconvincing so I don't know. It was almost inevitable that a new series would be based on the whole Oxy epidemic, unfortunately, but it is what it is. But even after watching several of this seasons episodes more than once, I cannot understand the reason these drug dealers pack up a handful of their customers and fly them to some remote place for a few days. Watched it again. No hint. What purpose, if any, does this possibly serve??? I've been reading many reviews, hoping someone may point out something that makes sense of this bizarre plot hole.
Close but no cigar. Where the hell is Mickey Haller?
This is good for what it is, but read the book instead.

- TriviaAuthor Michael Connelly thought the opioid crisis depicted in his Bosch novel "Two Kinds of Truth" might be too topical for the series, but the producers felt this was a good thing, so they kept it as part of the season's plot-line.
- GoofsWhen the officers were racing to the robbery and the accident happened the unmarked vehicle was hit broadsided by a marked vehicle at an intersection where the marked vehicle should have slowed down and had to turn right. Then the uniformed officers were asking the old guys what they weer thinking. The marked vehicle couldn't have gone straight through as they should have slowed and gone right at the intersection.

Harry Bosch: There are two kinds of truth, Mads. The kind that comes from darkness, gets bent and manipulated for someone's self-interest, and the kind you carry inside and know is real.
