Stunning. Wonderful. Vile. Cynical. Deep. Funny. Political. Gross. Amazing.
You know how some superhero shows are too kiddie like CW, or too self-satisfied like Kiss-Ass, or too good but inert and trippy like Legion or too popcorn like mainstream superhero stuff? This show somehow finds a balance and while it's nearest cousin might be Titans, The Boys has a deeper real world ugliness that is horrifying. Well done.
A fine episode again. I liked the investigation aspect of the story mixed with all the other aspects: new team members, sports events, media, crime fighting, sex and of course death. Works very nicely with a lot going on.
The Boys has been popping up for me from the beginning in the form of various memes, or in discussions generally about movies and series, with responses usually being positive. So I gave it a chance yesterday and now I am writing my opinions under episode 3, because I watched 3 episodes in one breath. Yes, the series is quite captivating and good. The action, brutality, humor but mainly the satire so far is excellent and I am curious where it will develop further. I must say, the storyline from the point of view of Starlight is very well processed. I enjoy hating the corporate fools she has to face.
This episode certianly continues the momentum of the series so far. Despite having less screentime, the highlight has to be Annie's story, and the costume. The scene where the young girl meets Starlight and states "it's your old uniform, but I'm saving up for the new one!" Is quite unsettling, as her naivety contrasts with Annie's awareness of the oversexualised constume. Not quite as good as Ep1 and Ep2, but still throughly enjoyable.
