Groan!
That being said, I found this epsisode to be bearable bordering on entertaining. It does require a hefty dose of suspension of disbelief but there were many episodes in past Star Trek shows which didn't take themselves so darn serious. Sometimes you get a little less Sci and more Fi in Star Trek and this episode is a good example.
Moreover, for the most part character interactions in this episode matter contrary to last week's instalment. Burnam's reaction to Georgiou had an impact on Pike and we actually got to see some dynamic character development which felt meaningful and not artificially drafted over bad writing. The conflict resolution was a bit cheesy but it'll work for me.
I don't know where this show is going and I have been very critical of this season so far but I'm willing to give credit where credit is due and this wasn't all that bad at all.
On the downside, the mycelial network plan feels made up and contrived. And the use of Hugh here is a play to sentimentality that makes bringing Tasha yard daughter back seem like a reasonable plot point. Tilly is the weakest of this season. And section 31? Idk.
Butttt, Pike is the strongest addition to season 2. The best of all starfleet captains rolled into a single character. Effects are top quality as always. And editing and dialog pop and move the characters and emotion forward with a pathos that provides depth, playing against the history established in season one.
Diggin' it!

- TriviaNahn is established as Discovery's new chief of security (following the death of Cmdr. Landry and the departure of Lt. Tyler in season 1). When she came aboard Discovery with Pike (and science officer Connolly) in Brother (2019), she was identified as an engineer. Both departments wear the same uniform color (red in the Enterprise's coding, bronze in Discovery's), but their duties and specialization don't overlap.
- GoofsHugh's hair was shown to already be graying in season 1, yet his overgrown hair (wig) and beard here are completely dark.
- Quotes
Philippa Georgiou: I've been authorized to hunt down a Starfleet officer wanted for murder. Excuse me, multiple murders. By the time I caught up to his craft, it was adrift and he was gone. Any idea where he might be?
Michael Burnham: If I hear anything, you'll be the first to know.
Philippa Georgiou: Will I?
Captain Christopher Pike: Commander Burnham has a hard time believing those charges. So do I.
Philippa Georgiou: The innocent don't run.
Michael Burnham: You ran from us.
Philippa Georgiou: Exactly.
