Like most of the US' teen TV shows, One of Us Is Lying still displays characters that look too old as a high school student. It's a bit creepy, to be honest.
But, despite that, it's an engaging murder mystery entwined with your daily dose of teen drama. A very binge-worthy show. Until they did a slight alteration with the finale.
Gone is the intensity of the climax and the satisfying epilogue of the book on which the show is based. Replace with your typical bland soap opera twist that clearly is a bridge to the next season. I'm so sorry, but because of that, I've lost my interest to follow their next story.

The first episode came out today, streaming on Peacock. With the R-rated language and sex encounters it doesn't appear to be targeting teenagers. More of an adult drama. It has the usual common mix of gay and straight relationships and a small time drug dealer. Now I find myself wondering if there will be a gun brought to school.
It features attractive, mostly unknown actors who carry their roles appropriately. No Oscars or Emmys for this group. Viewers who don't enjoy seeing two boys in passionate, romantic embrace should skip this series.
On the first day of school five students get into minor troubles and are held into after-school detention. An incident outside caused the teacher to rush out, just as the local troublemaker takes a drink from the water fountain. A clue might be the paper cup he used. He quickly falls ill from some sort of allergic reaction, they were unable to save him.
So all that happens right away, the mini series appears it will be about the rest of the students and what actually happened, who is hiding what. Police start to investigate, school lockers are searched, the laptop is missing. Really nothing new here but it is interesting to see how they put it all together.
I continued to watch it as a diversion, it sort of grows on you, wondering what the "Murder Club" will do next to find the one responsible. I didn't find that it has that "must watch" feel to it, more of a guilty pleasure, but I did watch it to the end. A bunch of really messed up "high school" students and a few confused parents. ."

It could have been better, but it was a pretty interesting show that kept me vested considering I'm 36 and this show is about a bunch of high schoolers that "find themselves" after being accused of murdering a peer. As far as high school shows go, it was one of the better series. I hate shows that have supposed to be 16 year-olds looking 25 and acting 35 (I'm talking to you, Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale), but this one was fairly believable and didn't give the characters too much credit, like other shows where a 16 year-old has numerous unexplained financial resources and seems to be smarter than any FBI agent or detective in town. Not great, but good.
What a surprise! Thought it was just gonna be another cliché teen-centric show disguised as a murder mystery drama. Romance was very much on the sideline and the mystery part was actually really done well and intriguing up until the very last scene. What I really liked the most was the character growth of Addy!
I haven't read the book yet and I know that it's pretty popular, but the thing is if it wasn't for IMDB's recommendation, I never would've known this adaptation existed! It's so underrated and I feel like this would've been a total hit if it was on Netflix. Anyhow I really wish they do a season 2 as the ending was a perfect set-up for it.

Completely different plot line than the book (though of course keeps the same gist), but honestly I found it just as enticing and complex. This version gives you more complexity and sympathy for Simon, more of maeve in her own spotlight, and still keeps you guessing til the end. Wonderful cast and production, plus room created to further another storyline!
