The Black Shuck

A wonderful piece of cinema. Beautifully captured and well performed by all.

"He takes the form of a huge black dog, and prowls along dark lanes and lonesome field footpaths, where, although his howling makes the hearer's blood run cold, his footfalls make no sound." Josh Trett's Black Shuck film screams success in all the right places. Especially set in Norfolk - Norfolk talent here. The ghostly apparition then traveled 12 miles away to Blythburgh Church, the stories say, where it killed four people. Clearly, Cujo and the rest of the world's most fearsome canines have nothing on the mythical Black Shuck. This short does wonders and is entertaining from start to finish. This will age like fine wine. Definitely the best demon dog film I've ever seen.

An assured short from a budding young talent. Lots of heart and soul in a tale that evokes Winston Churchill's black dog of depression. A final central performance that lingers long after the credits roll in a film that wastes not a single second. Would love to see this as a full-length production. Can't wait to see more from Mr Trett.

Black Shuck - The demon dog of Norfolk, UK. In the 16th Centruy a devil dog was reported to have stalked through a church. Over the years it became embedded in folklore that to see Black Shuck could foreshadow an imminent death.

This film subverts that trope by casting Shuck as more of a companion spirit walking beside someone who may be considering an unfortunate response to grief.

A short film that was shot on a crowd funded small budget. All the locations are local to North Norfolk and whilst there was almost nno budget for set design, creative use of online resources allowed for striking locations to be found. In fact I believe a central location was found by trawling though Air BnB.

The film is more than the sum of its parts and reflects the passion and care used in its creation,
