I really enjoyed this movie. Some genuinely creepy moments, some excellent storytelling and enough twists and turns to keep you interested all the way through. I will personally sit through any found footage horror movie, no matter what. That being said, this was one of the most effective FF films I've seen in a while. The documentary wrapper kept the story moving, and the reveals throughout were great. Excellent acting, excellent writing, excellent execution. Check it out!
First turn off was the title, as there are so many channels and wannabe celebrities online, who to follow becomes overwhelming. But I started watching and thought the acting was bad until I realized that if it felt amateurish, then it was well acted! As the film progresses and the host needs to project emotions across his vlog and into the actual film audience, you realize his amateur acting was, well, an act. If you are left wondering at the end, what the film was supposed to be, then the makers made a good film.
Is it real world "reality" or made up? What is reality? Can you trust your eyes anymore? Fake, real, ethics, honor, honesty, entertainment, real world or internet cruelty, addiction, moral dilemmas, psychological trauma? It is all there. One of those movies that I am glad I got past the title and ambiguous synopsis.
I don't know what I expected this movie to be, but whatever I thought, this was not it. It's not really scar, but it did have a few solid laughs. Overall the movie is interesting in how it deals with our ever growing relationship with social media and kept me engaged the entire time. I still can't tell if the movie is silly for all it's twists or brilliant. Either way, totally worth a watch.
Let me start by saying the other 10/10 review is 100% fake and the reviewer was either involved with the production or was paid to write it, that being said it kept my attention and I watched all the way to the end, a few nice jump scares and the acting was not that bad neither was it that good but I've seen worse, if you have nothing better to watch and have an hour and half to spare give it a go
Death of a Vlogger starts out so casually, so plain you just can't expect much from it. It seems like the most natural movie there could be about internet found footage and yet it manages to achieve quite a lot.
Perhaps the tactic was that the first half of the movie be presented as bland as possible in order to lower people's expectations and then hit them hard and take them by surprise. Because this is certainly what happened to me and what a pleasant surprise that turned out to be. It actually becomes a good mystery production, one that delivers and interestingly enough it still leaves some unanswered questions. For some.
This is a great example of how to make a solid movie with a very small budget, where everything falls right in place and it makes for this gorgeous final picture. It gives hope for both found footage and internet movie genres. Nicely done mates, looking forward for more of your future work.
Cheers!

- TriviaThe 360 degree seance scene was actually shot on a 360 degree camera, and was a true single take with no hidden cuts. In order to achieve this, the effects like the glass and lamp moving on their own were all practical and achieved in-camera.
