    Great Film !

In this era, only the movies with heavy CGI get the good ratings.

Movies where Actors stay safe in a studio and everything else is made of fiction.

This movie is great, climbing is real, the snow is real, the mountains are real.

It's not a blockbuser , it's not gonna win academy awards. But it's got emotion it's got great mountain views,it has tension and it has a simple, but good story.

Hands down to the producer and all the actors, they have made a great job and I'm sure it wasn't an easy one

I love mountain climbing films so I said I'll give it a try. Ryan Philippe was the only actor I knew , although I don't know the other ones, I really liked them and they all made a great contribution to this. Freddie Thorp is a young actor but he sure is talented.

    Definitely worth watching this!

    Not much plot here

SUMMIT FEVER is one of the more disappointing mountaineering films out there, mainly because it has no real plot. At least thrillers like CLIFFHANGER and A LONELY PLACE TO DIE (which director Julian Gilbey also made) had thriller plots with a mountaineering backdrop, which gave them drive and narrative coherency. Here, we just get a group of dull young friends (and added Hollywood star Ryan Philippe for name value) who decide to go climb a few mountains. Tragedy strikes on occasion, but it's not very thrilling or indeed involving. Gilbey obviously has a real-life passion for mountaineering but I do wonder if this would have just worked better as a documentary.

    Good climbing film overall

I really like climbing/mountain films generally. K2, everest, touching the void etc.

This film is very similar so if you enjoyed those you'll likely enjoy this.

Typical kinda story where you have 2 friends who like to climb together. One starts to grow up getting into an apprenticeship while the other continues on his adventures. Cue lots of luring and next min they're back together with a bunch of other climbers to take on some challenging (once in a lifetime opportunity) mountains.

Things inevitably take a turn for the worse and drama ensues!

You'd think the story ends there but nope! Get back on the horse and all that jazz, next min they're climbing another mountain. And guess what? Things take an inevitable turn for the worse and drama ensues!!

The acting was a mix, some good some not so much but nothing super terrible.

I enjoyed it and would watch it again for sure.

Leaned too hard into the romance.

As others have said, the plot to Summit Fever is pretty thin. There's actually nothing wrong with that for an action/survival genre film. The problem is, they tried to flesh it out with drama instead of focusing on the action.

The main character, Michael, is a bit mopey and weak-willed, always being talked into one more mountain by his enthusiastic friend, Jean Pierre. I mean, he has to hem and haw and be convinced to climb Every Single Time.

Then, there's the little romance side plot which is utterly boring, adds nothing to the movie and should have been cut. It causes Summit Fever to lose momentum. Once a character has become dreadfully boring, why should I be invested in their survival?

The drone scenery shots are nice, but the cinematography is disappointing considering the location. It's very generic. The climbing scenes are shot too close and when something does happen, it's over in an instant. Several people actually die, but there's no fanfare around it. They're on a mountain, so some of these people just come sliding by from above and then are gone forever all in 3 seconds. It's like, ok... bye? I'd rather watch this dude struggle and fight and maybe eventually die for at least a few minutes than stare at the French chick's pouty face for 5 straight minutes for no flippin reason. I bet the director had a crush on her.

Summit Fever is disappointing. It tries too hard to stir emotion and doesn't try hard enough to generate adrenaline fueled excitement by proxy. It ultimately fails on both fronts.

    6.4/10. Recommended

If you liked EVEREST (2015), FREE SOLO (2018), THE ALPINIST (2021), you will probably like this too. It's not as good as the aforementioned movie and documentaries, it's a low budget production and acting is mediocre, however, it's better than i thought it would be.

There are some impressive mountain shots, tension, acting is not bad and the ending is good. It is not much intense, your heart is not gonna beat faster, but these are 2 hours well spent, providing that you like these activities, i mean mountain climbing. If you are interested in this way of life (climbing and other dangerous activities), there is a kinda accurate depiction of it in this movie, and you will find it interesting.

It's not a great movie, probably it's not a good either, but i enjoy it. Read the plot and you will know what this is about. If you think it is interesting, watch it, you will not get disappointed. 4.9/10 is not a fair rating.

The last shot of the film really does feature Freddie Thorp ascending a 300 metre/1000 foot cliff face in the Arve Valley near Chamonix - though he is shown to be free-soloing (using no rope), he had a top rope attached to him and he had a harness under his trousers - the rope was digitally erased in post production. NB - the rope was not aiding his climbing, it was merely there for his safety (he is free climbing but NOT free solo climbing).
