Smithereens

This ranks as one of my favourite Black Mirror episodes. Brilliantly inciteful and brilliantly presented. A quick read of some of the reviews that have claimed this isn't "Black Mirror" show that they have, as other reviewers have put it, missed the point.

No, it's not "sci-fi" now but twenty or so years ago, when mobiles were just starting to be used, it would have been. And most of us then would have considered the idea of everyone staring at their phones instead of actually talking to each other preposterous. Yet the shots showing restaurants full of people looking at their phones, or all walking down the street engrossed in them, wouldn't need to be created by extras. This is now reality. And if the scope and depth of the knowledge of big online players like Google and Facebook about their users hasn't yet reached what's portrayed here, it's surely not far off.

Many 'Black Mirror' episodes present things in ways that make you think "yeah this could really happen". With this episode I'm left thinking "yeah, it probably already has".

Well worth a watch a gripping hour of television with Andrew Scott at the top of his game.

This episode tore me apart, I wanted to play the moral high ground but I had no idea who to route for, I had a vague idea of what was going to happen but never exactly pin pointed an idea. I highly recommend this to any avid black mirror fan.

Addiction to social networks? Facebook knowing more about you than the police? Our attention span of 1 minute regarding life and death situations? Don't text and drive? You can choose your own message, and meanwhile enjoy the usual wonderful acting of Andrew Scott and an almost equally good display from Topher Grace.

And to those saying it's not proper Black Mirror... because there's no implants involved, or as yet non-existent tech? Think back to series 1 episode 1 and have a word with yourself. Not to mention the fact that series should evolve, or die - and then we'll move on to the next one in a couple of minutes of course.
