I feel that the movie was judged too fast based on the slap together Netflix trailers. Sure it's raunchy with a simple story, but I really like that we got an original 2D animated film that's manages to be its own thing with a cool cast of characters and a great animation style. After hearing how long it took Genndy to get this thing made I couldn't help but feel the passion in every frame. Well maybe not every frame. Still a little upset it got robbed from its theatrical release, but at least it didn't get shelved.
This is nothing more than one of those soft core porn stoner comedies where the main character is a virgin average Joe that for whatever reason NEEDS to get laid. However, it's also animated and centers around dogs. This allows the movie to lean further into gross-out humor as every scene contains a dog's asshole, a scene contains a piss Bellagio fountain, there are several sex scenes including a dog orgy, and the final scene depicts a bear as a male stripper with bouncing balls. Worst part? None of the jokes landed for me. I'm sure somebody would find it funny, but save for moments where I had to physically restrain myself from changing to another tab, it just made me bored. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 1 was the fact it is slightly better than Sausage Party.
I was very excited due to the director and names attached to this movie but even they couldn't save it. The animation is beautiful, the soundtrack is great, and the voice acting is okay. BUT, the pacing is weird, the editing is choppy, and voice acting could have been better. It felt cheap and offbeat as if it was supposed to be a TV show. It's okay, just don't expect a Sausage Party.
I think that in the end of the day, a comedy has achieved its purpose if it makes you laugh. And this silly film made me so. It's not remarkable, but it's not forgettable either.
There are two or three moments where it really made me laugh out loud.
It amazes me that it was written and directed by Gendy Tartakovsky, because I'm used to a very different kind of work from him.
Give it a chance, but know that it's not for everyone. If you liked the Sausage Party, you'll enjoy this one too (Mexican double meaning).

Cannot be viewed seriously, take it for what it is...
A foul-mouthed comedy in cartoon format about a dog about to have his bits off...
It's like South Park meets lady and the tramp...
I caught the kids watching it a quickly had to turn it off but decided to watch it later in the evening. Killed some time but can't say I'd watch it again.
