Ep 12 is a tale of two halves. The opening act plods along, content with box-ticking calls and routine exchanges. For a while, it looks like another filler outing... watchable, but nothing to write home about. Then suddenly the energy changes.
The latter half pulls everything together with a case that feels genuinely urgent. The tension spikes, the stakes land, and the writing finally demands something from its characters. Nathan Fillion, initially sidelined, rises to the occasion with that mix of warmth and decisiveness that makes Nolan work. Bishop's quiet authority keeps the show grounded, while Chen and Lopez get moments that show genuine spark. Bradford is used with just the right amount of steel, proving that less can be more.
It's not perfect - the slow burn of the first half risks losing you - but the payoff is worth it. By the end, it's a reminder of what this show can do when it digs beneath the procedural routine.
8/10 - a sluggish start, but a strong finish that saves the shift.

On Valentine's Day, Sgt. Grey says that it is the most busy and dangerous day of the year for the Police Department since there are many heartbroken people on the streets with unbalanced behavior. He also informs that Bradford has taken one day off. While attending a dispatch call with Bishop, Nolan saves a woman called Denise from electric shock in a car crash and she has a crush on him. Bradford visits Isabel is a rehab clinic and sees that is clean and beautiful. But soon they realize that they need to split since Bradford will never fully trust her again and she deserves a fresh start to stay sober. Their past would certainly jeopardize her recovery. Lopez and West meet a victim of assault in the hospital called Kevin Scott suffering from the early stage of dementia, but she suspects of the inconsistencies of his statement.
"Heartbreak" is an episode of "The Rookie" with good storylines. The meeting of Tim and Isabel is the most dramatic and touching. The action is with Lucy and West segment. The problematic situation of Nolan and Denise is also a good segment. My vote is eight.

Not your typical saccharin Valentine episode. Very dynamic, real and wholly entertaining!
"gayness out of nowhere"
So what if there were no signs of him being gay before? There were also no signs of him being straight. His sexuality had never been referenced, as it was not yet important. Stop assuming everyone is straight if characters being "suddenly gay" upsets you. A television character does not always have to be excessively flamboyant to be gay. This character development was very realistic, tasteful, and appropriate.

- TriviaWesley Evers, a lawyer, has no protection on his phone to stop others opening it.
- GoofsWhen Nolan picks up the empty prescription bottle, the top line of the label reads "Percocet", a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen (paracetamol). The strength however, is given as 50mg-- Percocet is a combination drug, and therefore would have two strengths (which range from 2.5mg to 10mg for the oxycodone and stay at 325mg for the acetaminophen). Lower on the label reads "each tablet contains... 50mg of sertraline", also known as Zoloft, which does come in a 50mg strength.
