So far so good, three episodes in and the series is as promised. The writing and cinematography are both excellent, very similar to Downton. The production and sets have been good, the Russell household has some spectacular rooms, very period. The standout is the cast, every character has been cast well, all the actors have been excellent. Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector have great chemistry, but the standout is Louisa Jacobson. Why has it taken so long for her to star in something, she is absolutely fantastic, radiant.
Good episode with a dramatic finish, although the ease at how the episode got to its conclusion felt a little cheap. Not a major knock, still great television. Looking forward to more from this series.

Show itself, I have nothing bad to say about.
But, humans I will never understand. Past times, modern times.... doesn't matter.
Why were/are humans so narrow minded and following some dumb rules. I will never understand that.
And then people speak about freedom. Lel.

Despite being somewhat on the fence with the first episode, I found myself getting more and more excited for the release of the second. That one ended in great fashion and with the fall of the third episode I believe I am finally hooked! These episodes kind of bounce up and down with interest but they seem to be consistently sticking the landing, which is just great! And this latest episode is no exception. Dark perhaps, but that's good! Life is dark! The beautiful esthetics balance it! LOVE this period. LOVE this Titans of Industry story line. Each episode is improving on the last, and so I am very pleased to see this show heading in the right direction! Keep it up! I hope to see this one go the distance!
I agree with the other reviewers that suddenly this drama springs into action. The lesson is, "Don't cross the Russels." Once that fundraising event embarrasses the old guard, anything goes. Lives are ruined and a dramatic finish shows what happens when there are men with no compassion. It's all business. The young black writer encounters forces that we all knew she would. Also, the heroin (whom I just don't care about because she is about as dull as broken ice pick) begins to move toward a romantic relationship.
I enjoyed this episode as much as the previous ones. In this episode, Ada Brooks meets an old acquaintance/admirer. A scheming Oscar plans to court Gladys Russell, much to the annoyance of his lover John Adams. The Christian Advocate wants to publish Peggy Scott's story, but with racist conditions. Marian secretly meets Raikes again. George is betrayed by his fellow businessmen, and he unleashes his fury.
This episode is very interesting. I'm so loving Agnes more and her witty dialogues, and how she protects her naive sister. Also interesting to see the Statue of Liberty's hand before it was assembled. I didn't know those things. But the stars of this episode are, again, the Russells. George is definitely a force to be reckoned with. It's so satisfying to see those two-faced high society men getting what they deserved tho, although I do feel a little pity for Mr. Morris. The episode ends with a bang.

- TriviaThe hand of the Statue of Liberty was, in fact, on display in in Madison Square Park from 1876 - 1882 to help raise money to build the pedestal for the Statue of Liberty. Prior to that, it was displayed briefly in Fairmont Park in Philadelphia.
- GoofsMorris says to Russell: "There's no need to talk as if I were your chauffeur." The word chauffeur was not in use then. It means stoker in French and was used to mean the driver of a steam-powered automobile who had to stoke the fire before the vehicle could be operated.
- Quotes
Miss Grant: Who is this young man anyway?
Gladys Russell: Archie Baldwin. He's very respectable. His grandfather was an ambassador. His father is a banker, and so is he. His mother's people came over on the "Mayflower."
Miss Grant: Hmm, if everyone who claimed to be on the "Mayflower" really was, it would have to be the size of a White Star liner.
