What an intense experience this is

After watching this for a second time I was struck as how intense this episode is. Filled with symbolic imagery and intensive emotion it can only leave you exhausted at its end. This is not a feel good series, it full on brutal reality in its darkest form. The first episode sets the scene, although I must admit many details are not clear. After reading the light novel I understand it a bit more. The first point which puzzled me was why would the goblins sexuality assault human women. I originally though it was to set-up the goblins as pure evil in the watchers mind, but I have now discovered the goblins are all male and the only way they can reproduce is with human women - or least that is one way they reproduce. I suspect there may be female goblins somewhere, but we never really see them, except perhaps through the magic mirror in a later episode. The series is fully with symbology, the blood falling on the priestess's sceptre symbolising her loss of innocence. The goblins slayer comments that while if you search long and hard enough you may find a good goblin, such a goblin would never show its face, thus any goblin which shows its face is only good if its dead. This hints at a complex backstory and its filled with mystery, which really makes you want to know more. Not my normal type of anime but I have to say this is a classic in the making. If you want a feel good, peaches and crème perfect world anime don't watch. If you want an anime with real impact and the power to make your really think about uncomfortable concepts, then it's a must watch.
