This Trust Thing

There is little I can say without spoiling, but following on from previous plot threads, several characters have eventful scenes such as Rudy, Tommy, Eileen, Vincent, and Lori. I think the most compelling involves Rudy, Lori and Eileen.

That being said (and as good as Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance is, I think her monologue on the film set has a hint of obvious exposition about it. It's not clunky, but to drop all that info in such a dramatic way in that situation for me feels slightly OTT and took me out of the moment. As soon as she starts telling her backstory you know where it's going. For me it's not as impactful as the writers probably thought it would be, but it's certainly not a bad scene. It is a cinematic moment, incredibly well acted just feels like it something that's been concocted by filmmakers.

Predictable although well made are the mob related scenes. In terms of quality, the moments of conflict are on par with the best of The Sopranos, but because of our exposure to Mafia related pop culture you know exactly what is going to happen. Michael Rispoli is excellent.

As ever the visuals are amazing and the cast are on top form.

It is an 8.5/10 for me, but I round upwards.
