Perfectly fine action comedy
Shotgun Wedding is a perfectly fine action comedy that knows exactly what it is and is more than happy to coast by on the solid amount of chuckles, nice backdrop and predictability of its plot. It never gets a big laugh but is still generally entertaining enough to avoid becoming boring or overly stale. It's the kind of film designed for streaming, in an inoffensive way.
Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel work well enough together. Their chemistry is solid and they can keep things going on their rapport for the majority of the run time. Jennifer Coolidge gets the right amount of screen time so she can be a fun addition who stands out in every scene without becoming too much. She is pretty much the only other memorable person in the whole cast.
Jason Moore's direction is fine, helped by the tropical setting. There's only one memorable shot and everything else is competent with the classic tropes and jokes of an action comedy executed in a fun fashion. The best moments come from the rising body count and the way they are dispatched. Pinar Toprak's score has a lot of fun with it, ensuring the proceedings stay lighthearted.

Flawed but absolutely fun light-hearted action comedy
I was putting something light rom-com for fun and honestly I quite enjoyed it and nowhere near bad. This isn't a great film but it is really fun to watch. The writing is good enough though some jokes fall flat.
The positive aspect of the film must definitely be the cast. You can tell they were having fun with it as well. Also the cinematography and editing was a big plus as well. Jennifer Lopez absolutely stole the whole show along with Josh Duhamel. Both were pretty good with their roles. Though there were some flat jokes, it was pretty funny and entertaining.
And the big loss was the argument between Lopez and Duhamel about the big wedding thing. It was so stupid and corny. It starts off a little meh but it turns out a fun action comedy.
It's an amusing premise: the Bride and Groom have to take out a band of pirates. A couple of standout moments were the kitchen and helicopter scenes. There are also a few good 'set up and pay off' scenarios that happened throughout the film.
Though this film isn't all great and has plotholes but at least it was entertaining throughout. The loose point was the argument, how it all started but where it goes is a win, I suppose.
I was looking for a light hearted action comedy, and I'm glad I got stumbled upon this even though it was flawed. Entertaining watch.

Not-so-engaging story, lame plot twists, but compensates with being funny
The story is predictable and not engaging; the numerous plot twists found throughout this film are just lame, incoherent and incomprehensible; and Jennifer Lopez showed us yet another of those damsels in distress who scream too much before ending up becoming badass.
But luckily, it compensates with being very funny, mocking some of the usual rom-com/action clichés and having some good (if not great) performances, especially that of Jennifer Coolidge as the groom's mother, who was just hilarious.
So overall, it's a decent movie, not horrible nor good. I had fun watching it, but not to rewatch it.

Big messy fun
It's no Oscar contender folks, and it didn't try to be. It's overall a mixed-bag full of some big laughs but also jokes that fall flat on their face.
If you're into romantic comedies you'll find it humorous. I watched it with my boyfriend, mother and sister and we all laughed more than once and stayed entertained up until the end.
Jennifer Lopez might as well be put on a stake at this point. Nothing but "she's such a terrible actress", "she can't act out of a bag", etc. Etc. To find here according to the negative comments. Calm down silly kids; people who can't act don't get continuously cast in leading roles for 30+ years. Sorry, that lame excuse is mute at this point.
The chemistry is a bit to be desired between JLo and Josh Duhamel. The latter pulls off some tough scenes that other actors wouldn't have pulled off so smoothly without being so used to this material. I last enjoyed him in the other superior "Life As We Know It" off-playing Ms. Katherine Heigl and he does fine here. They have cute moments. A lot of suspension of disbelief is required.
Cheech Marin and Jennifer Coolidge are almost in throw away roles, however Ms. Coolidge has had a sudden rise with "Single All the Way", "The White Lotus" and other very recent shows and movies under her belt. Good for her, and she's having nothing but fun here!! Some stand out scenes are hers alone...
Lenny Kravitz is there. That can be a good or bad thing for some people. Like I said, overall a big, messy and fun mixed-bag. Simple plot, beautiful scenery, and a very quick and simple movie. If you like tropical island movies, rom-coms, weddings, pirates and ridiculous plot lines, this is for you.
It's family oriented but not for the entire family per se.
That's about the gist of it.
Thumbs up!

Action rom com that is an explosive dud.
2 out of 5 stars.
Shotgun Wedding is a bad action romantic comedy film that has a dull plot, lacks the fun humor, and the script offers nothing surprising for its genre. Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Lopez are both great and fun likable actors. Sadly, the script offers nothing new or fun for there characters. The humor is very few in between scenes. Most of the humor it aims for is unfunny. The action is nothing new to the film. The plot is boring. About a couple about to get married on an island only to be crashed by pirates. And occasionally a predictable plot twist that is easily foreshadowed in the beginning. Overall, it is one dull action comedy film that is left alone on that island.
