While the show overall is decent so far; loving the Nordic scenery, the second half of season one is starting out a little too melodramatic. As lead investigator of a case mentioned several episodes ago, Wisting is taking the brunt of an evidence planting accusation and there seems to be no recourse for him. The issue isn't that the accusation is being investigated, it's that the higher ups are acting like he's already at fault, taking the word of a convicted criminal over a case that went to trial almost two decades prior.
Are there no judges, prosecution and defense attorneys, or jurors in Norway? Was none of the evidence in question brought up during trial? Is there no appeals process that could've covered the issue sooner than 17 years in prison? I'm not going to pretend that I know the justice system there but I'm pretty sure some version of everything I just mentioned exists, and none of it has been even hinted at in the two episodes of the story arc, putting everything on William.
The excess drama isn't surprising, it's just entirely too one sided simply for the sake of drama. Perhaps the remaining three episodes will surprise me and actually include at least one aspect I've mentioned, but I'm betting it'll be a predictable plot twist instead.
