A movie trying to tackle psychological issues. We have seen better, more scientific depictions. But you can watch the movie for Dhanush. His acting was so good -- in many scenes he expresses mixed feelings so effectively. Even light scenes in which he cries while laughing due to laughing gas; to the scene in which he expresses love to Sara in Tamil!
Sara can't act. Anand L Rai should have looked for a more expressive heroine, especially in a heroine oriented movie like this. Akshay has done his part well, but anyway nothing much for him to do.
2+ hours of entertainment if you are not expecting anything in depth.

At face value, 'Atrangi Re' does provide adequate entertainment value and the film holistically has its heart set in the right place. Unlike many other mainstream titles, The humour isn't a complete disappointment here. The emotions do run high and the love story within does work as desired and it's probably the major selling point as well.
Dhanush and Akshay need no introduction, and both of them did exactly what their roles demanded. Therefore, the whole attention shifted elsewhere. Everyone's eyes were on Sarah! And all I can say is that she proved her mettle! Not only did she manage to put herself into the shoes of such a complicated character; she did all that without getting too predictable or clichéd in the process.
On one hand, I do appreciate the makers for trying their hands at something different; on the other hand, I can't help but point out the fact that this particular execution is nowhere near the level of maturity or accountability such delicate topics normally require.
I know and I understand that this film was never meant to spread awareness nor did it have any sort of intention to give out lectures on the said subject. But my point is when you are indulging actively in a conversation about Mental Disorders; you cannot possibly deny your duties & commitments.
In a society like ours, where Mental Issues are still treated as a laughing stock; As filmmakers, don't you guys bear the responsibility of conveying the right kind of message out in the open? But hey what did you do instead? You made a mockery out of it! There were multiple instances, especially in-between character interactions; where I find the ulterior motive to be alarmingly disconcerting and borderline problematic.

What worked:
The movie marks a very essential move regarding the mental health issues, and the movie mostly does justice with its added gloried elements. And it does work on the favor. Movie felt fresh also in regards to its narrative. The first act was phenomenal, making it a very watchable piece of work. Rehman's scores are well edited, which makes it a better version of itself. Dhanush deserves an applaud. Sara surprised me, and her casting in the movie is well calculated and needed flavor. The makers made a very pleasant and heartfelt movie, without making it too cliche and also not making it too classy. It's a well written work, well acted and edited piece of work, so we can say it's a well made movie. The overall impact is heartfelt and warm.
What did not work: What stands out is that some plot holes and some needed redrafting in the screenplay. I think it is fine but at the end of the movie , that's something I felt; only if the narratives were slightly cared for. And the movie loses a grip slightly which could have been taken care by cutting down the run time , and crisping it.
Final verdict: if not for the some glitches, it's a great movie which deserves definitely a watch.

I went into this with huge expectations and it didn't disappoint the story isn't new but it will surprise you on various level
Dhanush and Sara are the best thing about this film Akshay did what he always dose overall a solid love story.
Here is a Bollywood movie which tries to stay away from the beaten path but does so without losing the grip and the result is a nice feel good movie. The concept of the movie is unique with a very interesting twist.
The performances from the all actors especially Dhanush lift the movie Sara plays a very complex character and at times looks out of depth but manages well overall. Akshay is dependable as usual despite a smaller role. The screenplay and direction is good too as the movie doesn't drag much.
And one thing that gives the soul to the movie is the music by A R Rahman. The maestro is in top form here and delivers an outstanding soundtrack that gives the movie a great flavour.
Overall it's a good movie worth a watch.
