Sitting down to watch the 2019 drama "Turned Out", and from the cover alone I figured that this would most likely be a movie from Maverick Entertainment. Lo and behold, that it was indeed. I've watched a tad too many of their movies, as I am able to distinguish their movies by the cover alone. Needless to say that when I saw it was a Maverick Entertainment movie, my expectations to the movie dropped down several notches. Yet, I still opted to watch the movie, on account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen.
Writers Tyrone Jackson and Tyrone Tizak Jackson put together a script and storyline that wasn't really my cup of tea. But I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movie such as this. But on the plus side, then the storyline was actually a notch upward from the usual questionable stuff that Maverick Entertainment has been spewing out. The narrative was simply too slow paced for me, and most of the characters were very stand-offish as well.
While we are on the topic of the character gallery, I have to say that the character gallery was pretty generic, with some of the character actually being rather stereotypical. And that made it a bit hard to take the characters serious as they were on the screen.
The dialogue in the movie was pretty stereotypical, and there is quite a lot of cussing and usage of derogatory words going on in the dialogue.
Needless to say that I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and that was actually something that spoke in favor of the movie. Some of the acting performances were good, and others were bland.
The music in the movie was atrocious. I absolutely loathe rap and hip hop music, so I was not impressed with the music in "Turned Out".
Running at 2 hours and 11 minutes, the movie could have tremendously benefitted from a more round-handed trim in post editing.
The production value in the movie was actually a step up for a movie from Maverick Entertainment.
My rating of director Tyrone Jackson's 2019 movie "Turned Out" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
