Tobias Menzies credited as playing...
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
- [Prime Minister Thatcher is taking the salute at an outdoor gathering on TV]
- Queen Elizabeth II: [to Prince Philip, who has just entered the room] The *Prime Minister* taking the salute instead of the sovereign! Doesn't that bother you?
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: [shrugs his shoulders] No. Can't say it does. It's her moment. Let her enjoy it. It's interesting.
- Queen Elizabeth II: What?
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: [sits down] How much it clearly bothers you.
- Queen Elizabeth II: [firmly] I think that woman's getting ahead of herself... and all this increased security.
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: [simply] Well... she's trying to protect you.
- Queen Elizabeth II: From what?
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: From lunatics.
- [short pause]
- Queen Elizabeth II: [insisting] Normal people. My subjects.
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: [calmly insisting] Come on. That man was *clearly* a lunatic... and a fool.
- Queen Elizabeth II: Yes, but in the best sense like Lear's fool.
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: [simply] Don't get all... Shakespearian with me.
- [Queen Elizabeth chuckles and looks at the TV. Philip gradually appears remorseful]
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: I am sorry that I wasn't there... to protect you. I feel terrible.
- Queen Elizabeth II: [kindly] But you're there by my side all the time and do much more than keep me safe... but thank you. I expect Mr. Fagan is rather relieved he didn't come through that window and land on your bed.
- [Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth chuckle]
- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: [pleased] Yes. That would've been... a very different conversation.
