I try.....been trying since this show started. Every now and then they do an episode where I think, OK, this show might just get good. Meanwhile I continue to watch TNG, Voyager, DS9 on Pluto and hope the writers of this show stumble on a random classic Trek episode such as "The Inner Light", "Measure of a man ", ""Year Of Hell" or countless others written decades ago. Instead we get musicals, muppets and comedy.....SO.....MUCH......COMEDY.
I Really liked season 1.....and LOVED most of season 2.....HATED season 3....but still wanted to give this season a shot....season 4 was a tad better than 3....but THIS? The finale? It's worse than the last episode of Game Of Thrones.....it's poorly written, the acting is wooden.... Jesse Pinkman can't stop whispering like he's Batman.... It's like it was written by a senile 10 year old......oh.....and yeah, I love Radiohead as much as the next guy, but you've gone to that well too many times......
I liked the first season of The Orville.....I liked the idea of mixing TNG Star Trek with a little Family Guy humor. It started a bit wobbly....more humor than Sci-Fi....but I stayed with it. Then in season 2 the writing improved, the balance was a more natural fit.... Seth brought in some TNG and Voyager writers, directors and actors....and it worked.....then the season ended....and it's announced the show is moving to Hulu. Fine.....then Covid came....season 3 was delayed. Then delayed again.......ok.....so what? There's an audience for this. Seth came up with something unique. At the time season 2 aired there was very little to no Star Trek airing. The Orville was a breath of fresh air to old Star Trek fans like myself.
So what happened?
Well.....actual Star Trek shows started popping up....flooding the market.....but they were mostly crap aimed at a younger audience and they were missing that old-school TNG feel......
Now the Orville comes back.
And I am disappointed......the humor is pretty much gone....
And guess what.....STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS took the formula Seth created and did it better.....
Seth, You waited too long....and judging from these first 2 episodes you're taking yourself too seriously
I'll give the next episode a shot....but so far I'm not feeling it.
