The first movie I ever saw, at the age of 4, was "Jaws". The second was "Apocalypse Now". This *may* explain why I've been a vegetarian for 30 years, or it may explain why I'm able to watch the most hideously graphic and disturbing horror movies without flinching. After that, I grew up on a steady diet of Monty Python and (original series) Doctor Who, which explains everything else about me. ^_^

  • "No Sleep"? More like "No Plot".

First off, I've been a fan of Mpho Koaho since "Dirk Gently", so all four stars of my rating are for him. Unfortunately, that can't save bad writing.

The idea is interesting, if a little cliché. A group of people in an apartment building find a black square and they don't know what it is. One man is curious and wants to investigate, but a small group of bullies is too afraid of the object to let him.

That's it. That's the entire story. He does a thing, then another thing, and then bad things happen. There was no character development. There was no real chain of cause and effect. Nothing to establish why the viewer should care about the characters. Nothing to make us invested in the outcome.

And then it ends. No real resolution. No attempts at explanation. Is it supposed to be a metaphor? If so, it's very much like something a tween would write to be "literary", when they've never read anything longer than a few pages.

As a fan of horror anthologies, I was hoping I'd found a new one to enjoy. I'll probably watch the whole series, but if this episode is anything to go by, I'll continue to be disappointed.
