  • Smart-er R R R R R

The original was smart. This is smart-R. One of my favorite titles is FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN, 1943, because, towards the end, just as the protagonist is about to fully de-electrify Frankie, he changes his mind, and decides to bring the monster up to full power. To see his its real capacity. Chaos naturally ensues. Unhinged, right? M3gan is like that too. You always want to see what she will do next. One of my fave lines of dialog in the original is that, when an adult tries to reason with the AI, explaining that dismembering people is possibly a disproportionate reaction, M3gan quickly replies "Big Whup," and gets on with her agenda. This film is under-rated and unappreciated. The only major flaw is that the first few minutes promise an entirely different movie, and fans would like to see that one too.

  • To avoid complications, deliver your baby ...

In an accredited facility! The foregoing was a public service announcement. What follows is the review.

Hello, this is DD, Devourer of Media, here to discuss FF2025. Checks all the boxes but remains non-traditional, specially given the way Marvel, much like Galacticus himself, has been eating its own library lately. Instead of the usual over-the-top slurry of inside jokes and callbacks, we get a script so intelligent it could have been an original Star Trek episode, and still seemed right at home. Pascal has come a long way from "Button" in Open Range. Humanistic. Recommended. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." • does not quite stick the landing

The holy grail of film-making (was ever thus) is a simple story that hooks the viewer off the top because of something different or unusual. This approach is so simple and obvious that most creators overlook it. To his credit, McKenzie did not, and the first hour here is mesmerizing. Now, there was a time when that simple achievement would have been good enough on its own. Unfortunately those days are gone. Everyone today, creator and viewer alike, is too clever by half. The second half of the story goes for one of those double-reverse twists they teach in film school. Which succeeds merely in sucking the joy out of the first half. Still, given the very sad state of the industry today, an above-average watch. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer."
