The holy grail of film-making (was ever thus) is a simple story that hooks the viewer off the top because of something different or unusual. This approach is so simple and obvious that most creators overlook it. To his credit, McKenzie did not, and the first hour here is mesmerizing. Now, there was a time when that simple achievement would have been good enough on its own. Unfortunately those days are gone. Everyone today, creator and viewer alike, is too clever by half. The second half of the story goes for one of those double-reverse twists they teach in film school. Which succeeds merely in sucking the joy out of the first half. Still, given the very sad state of the industry today, an above-average watch. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." To be clear, Pitt appears twice on my list of all time greats. At this stage of his career, he is basically playing himself. Nothing wrong with that at all. (Note for the IMDb Cloud -- if they ever do a biopic on Redford, Pitt has the inside track.) For the year 2025, this film offers beats and notes from the old-school action films, and some very sharp dialog. Liked the inside joke where the young cocky driver makes fun of Pitt's age, while the mother of the young cocky driver takes an instant shine to Brad. A solid action film with proven veterans is nothing to sneeze at. Especially in 2025. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." Easy to overlook how clever this really is. A plot twist no one sees coming in the first 45 minutes. One of the few scripts in the history of film to actually make the serial killer sympathetic -- in the same rarified air as Hannibal. Great pacing, especially the first two Acts. Great acting, direction, all the bits and pieces are where they should be. Under appreciated. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer."
