Is this movie perfect? No, no it is not. Is it a fun and scary time? YES, yes it is! This novel is my favorite of King's, and I went into this adaptation with a lot of apprehension, because how can they fit all the best and most important parts from that story into 90 minutes? Answer: they can't, and they don't try to. Like everyone else here, I would LOVE to see a more fleshed out adaptation, even a mini-series, so we can really get into The Lot versus focusing on our core group. I also agree that this movie, even with the adjusted storyline, should have been longer because there are scenes that feel quite rushed with characters coincidentally reaching correct conclusions very quick. HOWEVER, they did a heck of a job adapting this story, I'll tell you that. I was happy to see that some of my favorite moments from the novel were realized here (taking away the stairs, Mark driving the car) though they were utilized in new ways, and I was THRILLED to see the addition of new scenes (Marjorie Glick under the sheet, Mark in his treehouse) that were totally killer!!! This movie is also full of references to many side characters and side stories through dialogue and in the background of scenes that are fun little easter eggs when you notice them, showing that the filmmakers did their homework, and that deserves appreciation.
I will say that the one thing this adaptation DID NOT need was that bizarre subplot with Susan's mom. What even was that????

Basically, this episode would fit in much better in the Twilight Zone universe than in the Black Mirror universe. When you watch it, keep an open mind and think of the Twilight Zone instead.
The concept is an interesting one that reminds me of Nope and capturing the spectacle, and the supernatural element is FUN! It's just that Black Mirror has not been a supernatural show and so when the *thing* happens your immediate reaction is something along the lines of "whaaat is going on?!?!" When you step back and look at the episode by itself, it's fun and entertaining with a great twist that I certainly didn't expect! It's not the greatest episode of Black Mirror (or Twilight Zone, for that matter) but in my opinion, it's worth more than the ratings it's getting, and is worth the watch.
