The first flop is the wild wolf scene...utterly non believable...the wild wolf is turned into a well domesticated, gentle house dog. The tracking...the only half good tracking is the forest tracking...half good, because why would the killer stay on scene? So, while Bonham is visited and contracted, the killer just lies idle on the forest waiting for Bonham to find him with all evidence intact? The rest of the in-city tracking...utterly non believable. Now...the fighting scenes...a 50 plus year old man equal or better than a fit young man, with equal or more stamina? Just not believable at all. The fighting scenes, specially the last...the killer gets the best of Bonham quite a few times, and badly knifes Bonham...quite a few times...and does not finish him off? Perhaps a child would find it believable. Therefore the movie is downgraded to a fairy-tale-action-movie level. Good for a rainy do-nothing sunday with three or more beers in the gut.
The movie is enthralling, it has deepness, it is the hard core gunfighter who has lost all hope on mankind, including himself, and trapped by circumstances in a desert with a beautiful pure woman...and slowly regains hope in mankind, in himself, and ultimately falls in love...his last love...and sacrifices his life so that she may live...all enshrined in the nostalgic spell of the award winning score...a beautiful movie...
