This was an agonizing watch. The writing was terrible, and for the love of God, stop hiring Chris Pratt to do voice acting! He really phoned it in here. This is evident because despite initial critisism, I don't think he did THAT bad of a job in "The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)". I still think that movie could have done a lot better than casting Chris Pratt as Mario, but that's beyond the scope of this review.
"The Garfield Movie (2024)" is not "so bad it's good", it's not entertaining, it's not fun, and maybe most of all, it's painfully out of touch. The brand of self-referential humor this movie relies almost entirely upon was old in 2016, let alone 2024. Hollywood needs to hire younger writing talent, badly.
The animation was good, in fact it is pretty much the only redeeming factor here. Kudos to the animation department, but also I'm sorry your hard work was wasted on what is ultimately a pile of garbage.
From an animation fan, don't watch this.

People really like to hate this movie apparently. I don't see what makes this movie a 4.4 versus Space Jam's 6.5 though.
The animation in both is great. There's product placement. The story is sloppy. The acting is mediocre at best, at least from the main character. Voice acting is fine. They're both completely watchable, in fact they are fun movies.
I'd say the main thing that separates these is time. We have more realistic CG animation now, which makes this movie look higher budget than the original. I was surprised to find out that the difference in budget is not /that/ large (when accounting for inflation). It's about a $10M increase.
I think this movie deserves to be criticized but not to the point of completely glossing over its positives.
I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys cartoons, and doesn't take movies like this super seriously.

Where do I even begin with this one?
Rock Dog 2: Rock Around The Park did not need to exist. That's about as nice as I can put it.
It seems that not a single soul involved with the original production wanted to touch this one. It's pretty clear why.
The animation is very stiff. The characters often have a blank expression on their face, almost as if their minds blank out for a split second every so often. The colors are bleak and the rendering is very basic for what is supposed to be a feature.
When it comes to the story it is about the most generic and predictable drivel you can imagine. The surprises come in the form of new family members, which I can only imagine were added to uphold a facade of family values plucked straight from the 50's. Unsurprisingly we get a sprinkle of the classic boomer "Social Media Bad" morals. That was definitely the highlight of the movie because "I'm trending down" is not a sentence I thought I'd ever hear. It's embarrassing to watch this movie.
I was not planning to write a review for this movie, but I feel obligated after seeing the review page littered with what must be either Splash Entertainment employees or cult members praising this movie and recommending it for kids & families.
Do not make your kids watch this, 2021 has been a great year for animation, so pick something good like "Luca" or "Wish Dragon" instead. Better yet, watch the original "Rock Dog". It's pretty decent.
I want to recommend Rock Dog 2 specifically for you and your friends to laugh at, because it is a spectacular train wreck. Unfortunately it looks like there's a third movie coming, and at that point I'm afraid the joke may have gotten old.
