Absolutely phenomenal. A sign of a good film is when you leave the theatre pondering what you've just seen for days thereafter. You can immediately feel Arthur's pain from the get go and begin to sympathise with him. It's a simple yet compelling storyline that delves into the problems within our society and how we treat others. It is the first time I have gone twice to see a movie in theatres and I would happily go again.
It's alright. 5/10 over all BUT for cinematography I'd give it about 8/10.
Martial arts was halfway decent and the concept wasn't shabby. The highlight was the cinematography. It was shot very well, especially the final fight scene which showcased the actor's skills as a martial artist. One can tell some parts were sped up but all and all great choreography and cinematography. Acting was below standard however but it's an enjoyable enough movie with the action sequences.
This is a film done by a man who has been in film business longer than a lot of us have been alive. His style is old school and you have to pay close attention to the storyline and smaller details because they reveal a lot about it toward the end. Also, it's a modern western and you have to go into this film with an appreciation for the western genre. Without a doubt, Duvall, and Franco carried the film along with Hartnett, but I think it would've been beneficial to see more of him. There were a few continuity issues and plot holes but every film has those issues. Granted, I'm a huge fan of both Duvall and Franco so I enjoyed watching the film. It's definitely a story you have to watch with an open mind.
