This film is a fantastic example of telling interesting, underserved stories from places like the American South and Midwest. I'm absolutely sick of films about the one percent class living in massive cities on the coast with trivial, "rich-people-problems." This was a huge breath of fresh air, and a truly entertaining step into the gritty and dirty, yet magical world of the south. Yerby has talent for making seemingly archetypical characters into deep, relatable humans. This most likely like had a decently small budget compared to most films - but not a second of it felt cheap or compromised. Kickass story. Kickass soundtrack. If you didn't enjoy this, that's your loss. Can't wait to see what Yerby does next.

Eddie Alcazar is clearly nothing short of genius. This film is crafted in a unique, provocative way down to the unconventional structure and scene coverage. I wish more films were like this. The ever floating cinematography, unparalleled soundscape/sound design, and existentialist musings mix well to take you on a truly unique trip that rides the line of beautiful and disturbing.

The performances and dialogue not being the center piece of a film is a challenging path to take - but Alcazar and his team did it. Although the cast did an incredible job portraying such a strange reality, the tone and atmosphere is the true star. I love this and I wish that Arrow or Criterion would pick this up as there is no bluray release. I would love to see it in 4K.

Once you dig into the first couple scenes, you wont stop. An incredibly entertaining cast, well written dialogue, and beautiful cinematography. Griffith brings the main character "Shoes" to life in such a tactful and relatable way, everyone will find pieces of themselves in that performance. A subtle but powerful arc that touches deep, loaded with memorable conversations.

Griffith obviously has an incredible knack for creating a compelling story in one location, which is in no way a simple task. You will not forget this film. Nor will you forget the yo-yo, the buffet of cologne, the color of the wall tiles, and every one of the eccentric characters.
