  • Gets better as it goes along

Like many prolific Euro and Italian directors of Joe D'Amato's era, he would rightly be accused of self plagiarism today. This movie so echoes his Emmanuelle films, themselves a knock off, that it even features Laura Gemser in a supporting role. But all that aside, it's not a horrible film. It starts off slow, and one almost wishes for more explicit sex to keep things going, --- but after around the 45 minute mark... half way in... a love plot starts unfolding involving a gay or bi male, that really actually seems somewhat heartfelt... and moves the movie into more watchable territory. It's usual D'amato, revisiting themes, but if you like to see a new one from him you haven't seen - then check it out. But don't expect Emmanuelle and the Last Cannibals.

  • Just doesn't work

I don't know. I'm a big Jess Franco fan, but this has to be seriously one of his weakest movies, despite being one of the most widely distributed.

I honestly don't know WHY it doesn't work. It has all the makings of what should have been a GREAT film. Jess Franco, Christopher Lee, Herbert Lom, Klaus Kinski, Soledad Miranda, and Jack Taylor - all doing a movie based on Bram Stoker's Dracula?!

I think it misses in that it could have stood to be more graphic. It's also slow. Too slow. I'm also not the biggest fan of Franco's movies he partnered with producer Harry Allan Towers for, of which this is one. The cinematography is great, the sets look nice, but all and all there is just inspiration missing here.

For a good Dracula movie that is close to the book, for my money I'd stick with Francis Ford Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula".

  • I LOVE this movie

I'm gonna keep this review short and sweet (like the movie).

KISS ME MONSTER is nothing but fun. It's campy, it's surely a product of it's time (the late 1960's Europe), and if you like Eurospy spoofs and Jess Franco, you won't really be disappointed here.

The plot is whacky, (like it's predecessor, "Two Under Cover Angels", aka "Sadist Erotica"), but this movie really isn't about the plot. What makes it fun is the sharp fast paced witty dialog between the two leads. It comes off almost like a sitcom, paced with a jab or joke almost every other line.

So, that's about all there is to it, if you like these kinds of movies, and just want something very light and campy, check it out.
