The Grand Finale was more of a fond farewell than a story telling 'episode' in it's own right. A final homage to the characters that made up Downton Abbey for so many years and so many seasons and episodes.
The Grand Finale started a bit slow, but slowly built up pace, to deliver a satisfactory ending and goodbye.
I didn't think it was as good as Downton Abbey, A New Era. It certainly won't win any Oscars, but, for the fans, it did deliver a nostalgic last 'hurrah' .

We were really looking forward to this, having enjoyed the book. The 'all star' cast also heightened expectations .
Sat down to watch and frankly, was bitterly dissappointed.
It seemed to follow the book exactly allthough with only a few of the murders.
Looking at the calibre and experience of the cast, it can only be poor adaptation and direction.
The delivery of lines came across as amateur and wooden. It felt like the standard of an amateur school production.
It also felt like a cheap film set, like watching crossroads motel. Many of the scenes changed abruptly, which added to the jerky lack of momentum.
As a production, to me, it just didn't flow.
Deeply dissappointing as I thoroughly enjoyed the books.

As always fact is so much better than fiction. This period of English history has oodles of interesting content to play with, and if they had gone for more fact over fiction it could have outshone Game of thrones.
So why did they (the makers) decide to fabricate so much. I'm happy for artistic license, but much of King & Conqueror, is just nonsense, as are costumes, accents and more.
Perhaps it's because they were so keen to get on with the next 'Game of Thrones' wonder series. ?
It comes across as made 'on the cheap' because there is so little attention to historical accuracy or detail.
Caricatures in Wurzil Gummage costumes, with heavy overtones of modern 'values'.
It reminded me of Westworld, we were watching modern world 'clients' role playing in Medieval England. Sadly Yul Brenner never appeared.
It may seem knit picking, but if you don't get the small things right, then you can guarantee the big things will be wrong too.
This sums up King & Conqueror, mediocrity, half baked, half done, half researched. It could have been infinitely better.
If you like being spoon fed historical nonsense with a bit of social lecturing thrown in. This is for you.
I found it too irritating to continue watching.
