This type of genre always intrigues me. It's an apocalyptic world which is always fun. The creatures seem invincible so that does make it quite defeating for the characters. The 8000 feet addition is quite new so I liked that. The script was a little weak. Main characters become unlikeable.. never going to be the best film in the world but alright if you like this genre.
I don't understand the hate for this movie. It's not as bad as everyone is making out. Yes there's product placement for Amazon but it's really clever in the way Will (Ice Cube) has got access to EVERYTHING! The way he navigates his screen and opens/closes tabs and manages 7 million different apps etc - he's a tech wizard, no wonder he has no time for anything else! I applaud the film for this because it must be hard to work out in the writing process let alone the filming process.
Adding to this there's the war of the world's input which is somehow pushed a little to the back! How they managed to make aliens invaded seem like the lesser priority is quite mad. I enjoyed war of the worlds with Tom Cruise, so I enjoyed seeing another adaptation of this, maybe not as iconic but certainly with more reasoning behind why the aliens are invading.
A decent Saturday night watch from a universe we're all familiar with.
