  • Something this way wicked is from hell....

First the atmosphere is exemplary. It's from 2006 and it still delivers in presentation. The hellish place that is Silent Hill really is very convincing as a always smoldering nocturnal hell..why? Not really explained other than the mine thing, which is not thoroughly explained but ok after all it is a video game.

There is something that has nothing to do with the story or movie. My mind went there. The constant rain of ash reminds me of the ash rain that was described by the residents of Dachau and othertowns down wind from concentration camps. Just added darkness to an already dark story. I guess also the ash from volcanoes but the first thought was chilling, but I digress.

Second the acting is all good which could be the death knell in a movie like this.

Third the music , awe yes it's exquisite. Bowed cymbals, garbled loops , floating dark keys and only there when needed. Go to YouTube it's worth a listen by itself.

Fourth the visuals are almost more art film than horror except for the gore.

I've watched this numerous times and see something different every time.

I gave it a 9 because the plot is a little lose and characters aren't full explained but that doesn't happen in video games either. Enjoy!!!!!!

  • How not to wear a trench coat ....

Ok so this is a sub par B movie trying really hard to be serious. Yes we have the wacky scientist, bad dialog " fire the gun " said during a skirmish and " no ones been up there you can be sure of that as the main character climbs up..... People shooting with their gun pointing down. Very cheesy sound effects for the being or whatever it is. Now for the character Senator Walter K. Powers, who incessantly wears a trench coat or over coat always closed all the way to his neck! This is not the way one wears this period. So damn distracting!! When you see the uh ship you'll notice the design is like a screw....🤔 Scientists never notice. Nuff said it's a fun movie to poke fun at as you watch. Also the ending is ..what? It's not plan 9 but close, lol .

  • Omg all I can say is Wow

I was perusing the " art fims " area of Night Flight and found this. First the two leads. Theresa Russell and Art Garfunkel are a amazing combo. At first kind of a huh them but then you see his obsession and her alternate lover ( at first). We start with a suicide , no spoilers. The subsequent build up to it. This is master story telling by Roeg the director. If you've been in any kind of a relationship like this , it so damn real. Anyway the cops get involved etc. All the supporting roles are excellently played also. Art Garfunkel is a great actor and I got so frustrated with his character. He's a psychiatrist, some of his actions to me seem so ridiculously condescending. He's obsessed with her and she's married ,which is already a bad bedrock for a relationship. Theresa Russel masterfully plays the wild, trapped?, sensous woman who becomes obsessed with him also. They become toxic. Like I said no spoilers. You will get frustrated with Art's character though. He plays part doormat part Jerk at times. The chemistry between them is electric. I mean he met her already her being the seductive one. So why is he .....well you'll have to watch. Just another great Theresa Russell film.
