The main thing is Stitch was cute, funny and the animation was brilliant.
Maia Kealoha was an adorable Lilo and really helped bring her to life while also adding her own personality. Billy Magnussen was an amazing Pleakley and I loved the changes they made with the character. It was so nice to have Tia Carrere, Nani's original voice actress, in the film. Kaipo Dudoit was a great David, just as likeable and perfectly gorgeous as the original and I thought Amy Hill's character was a great addition.
The standout however, was Sydney Agudong. She was brilliant as Nani and honestly felt like the main character at times because you forgot about the cute blue alien when she was on screen.
I didn't like some of the story changes. I don't know why they made Jumba the villain. They said they didn't put Gantu in to strengthen the storytelling but considering it made the storyline worse, I think it was probably because they couldn't work out how to animate a huge whale-like alien, or it might've pushed them over budget. Either way I missed Jumba and Stitch's relationship and I think he was missed as the smart father/uncle-like figure in the story.
I did however LOVE the changes they made with Nani's character and how she got to have a future and didn't just go from teenager to caregiver. It was so brilliant to see and by far the best addition to the movie.
Other than that I think they should've just copied the movie exactly because if something is perfect why change it? I did feel it lacked some of the emotion of the original film and wasn't as heartwarming or touching but it was a good tribute.
My favourite takeaway is that while family comes first, that's never to the detriment of yourself. Ohana means family and that includes yourself.
