Not comedic, except for the action sequences which are sooo poor and as implausible as a Dukes of Hazzard sequence. I gave this a good run while sidelined with flu... Kristen Scott Thomas is the only compelling character. Oldman's character is grossly over done and deliberately so, but he is not comedic, he is simply a self indulgent, rude @rsehole with plots written around him such that the outcomes always fall his way with little effort or care on his part. Hooray... he has a superpower... chronic disinterest. Let's all fawn over how well Oldman plays this exaggerated cliche. And how are all the recurring field agents all so physically uncoordinated and overweight/out of condition? One of them waddles rather than walks and we are to believe he is the tough one with a military tour background? And finally, who greenlit an entire season focused on River chasing his dad and the rest of the team failing to contain his senile, geriatric grandfather? Didn't they realise the writing team was just pulling their leg? The show runner and producers said "that concept sounds great, let's go with that". That sounds like the cynical carelessness of Oldman's character. I realise Oldman doesn't have to invest many days or much effort/thought into each season, but I can't think this is a character or performance he will enjoy re-watching in his retirement.
Seriously, this is the same ridiculous story premise as Prometheus... let's forget germ theory and the entire human history with infectious disease, remove our helmets and space suits and ignore/breach all fundamental quarantine protocols until it is too late. I love the Alien franchise, but it defies belief when they remove their helmets and I just cannot get past my teeth grinding annoyance with an entire story line that relies completely on this stupid, lazy writing. That the chemical composition of the atmosphere is "breathable" is totally, completely, utterly irrelevant to any presence or absence of biological risk and it defies belief that this fundamental truth is dismissed from consideration by anyone on an interplanetary mission...
