*sigh*.......what a relief! This was only going to go one of two ways. Either really good or absolutely horrifically bad. Thankfully it isn't the later and I am so so grateful we have a comedy in 2025 that is actually funny!
Akiva Schaffer and everyone behind this film have done something brilliant. They have managed to take the essence of the original films. That unmistakable silly, goofy, slap-stick humour. Carry it over, create something new and update it for modern audiences. This is not a rip off of the original films whatsoever. It is certainly its own film but make no mistake it is definitely a "Naked Gun" film. This was certainly one of those franchises that I thought could never be touched again. Those were lightning in a bottle, how could you ever do something new and justice to the originals. Schaffer definitely has. Huge amount of pressure taking this on but knock it out of the park.
Liam Neeson, where has this comedic genius-ness come from? It was a very bold decision to cast him however a total stroke of genius. It just works. Not the same as Nielsen, who could be, but totally embraces the wacky world of "Naked Gun" perfectly. Pamela Anderson is also terrific as the damsel in destress. Again the comedy lands super well with her character and the interaction with Neeson.
There are some absolute laugh out loud moments that is really rare for comedy's these days to achieve. Maybe this is the return of silly, goofy comedy. Something is needed right now because majority of comedies are just bland and boring. This can't be said for this. Do all of the jokes work, no. However they have that awesome stupid "Naked Gun" charm to them.
Overall 70% out of 100! I'm so happy they didn't blow this and make a complete car crash. There is totally room for more sequels with this cast. If anything it is crying out for more. Neeson and Anderson are terrific! Schaffer though is the true hero.
