  • Incredible Ideas Played Out in A Series of Philosophical Discussions

I am so excited that David Cronenberg put this film out and that he still has fresh ideas, which didn't seem to be the case in his last film. Crimes of the Future felt like a greatest hits compilation for the director and it was not particularly engaging. I was thrilled to be intrigued by The Shrouds from the first scene! However, the film ends up being simply one philosophical conversation between characters after another while nearly nothing happens in the plot. And while the ideas are intriguing and the characters do find some level of dimension, this film is all telling with no showing and eventually frustrates the viewer. I enjoyed the fresh ideas but struggled with the fact that this was a film, I still look forward to his next work! Cronenberg has had a marvelous career and still has us thinking.

  • Yeah, Awesome Ideas

I loved the ideas in this movie, as far fetched as some of them are. The film seems tightly wound for a while, and too serious, and then kind of comes apart and there's execution issues all over it. Was it a good time though? Yes. Are the ideas great sci-fi? Yeah, I think it was innovative and a really fun late night watch. Points for entertainment and innovation and that has to mean something when so many movies are made today simply to put on in the background when you doom scroll and fold your clothes. If you're into science fiction and interesting indie filmmaking then you should give this a watch.

  • Hard to believe it is this bad

Ben Stiller plays the Hallmark CEO woman who travels from big city life to a small town and learns the meaning of Christmas... I can't believe this movie was so bad. Ben Stiller can be funny, has good film sensibilities, and certainly has enough movie experience by now, but everything about this movie is wrong. It is not funny. It is not profound. It is silly in obnoxious ways and dramatic in ways that are not earned or profound. David Gordon Green directs and he has made funny movies in the past like Pineapple Express but this movie is just somber and inappropriately goofy. I wasn't expecting an Oscar winner, but this is so far from entertaining that it is offensive and just a waste of time. Maybe Green should go back to directing tired Halloween sequels; Nutcrackers is awful.
