The only reason I can see for creating an episode like this is that the SNW writers have run out of material. Given the pallet they have to work with (starships, alien worlds, unlimited tech, etc), it's hard to believe.

Why is Spock a horndog?
"To EXPLORE strange new worlds, seek out new life, new civilizations..."
Why dont they ever explore? Why arent they seeking new life? The possibilities are limitless. Remember the TOS episode Who Mourns For Adonais? That was good stuff. This episode is not good stuff.
