I did not see the original movie and did not know the story before I started watching this series. It took a little while to get into and I didn't understand everything, but the good acting kept me watching.
However, after a couple of episodes, I felt like maybe something was wrong with my glasses. In some scenes, there was a definite tilt of the horizontal. This "Dutch tilt/angle" is supposed to make the viewer feel uncomfortable. I get that. But it was totally overused. Another reviewer said it was in 90% of the scenes. Maybe. It felt like more.
Episode 4 had a scene where the actual horizon (sea) appeared to be slanted about 35 degrees. Okay. But another scene had the characters sitting in a car, with the horizon visible in the back window - at a slant of maybe 3 degrees. Enough to annoy and not enough to qualify (in my opinion) for a Dutch tilt.
I found myself largely listening to the remaining episodes, rather than watching. Which is unfortunate.

Some of my favourite British actors plus some very interesting story plots results in the 9-star rating.
I did not know what to expect when I started watching this. But if I was expecting to watch a good show, I was not disappointed.
It's mainly a cop show, so there are some dark topics covered (e.g. Suicide, domestic violence, etc.) but there is no excessive/gratuitous portrayal of violence. Not even a lot of bad language, which was a pleasant surprise.
The characters that you think are the good guys, may not actually be. And the bad guys, may not be as bad as you think. Lots of mystery and suspense with just a touch of horror (I am not a huge horror fan).
Watch it and see for yourself!

I agree with other reviews here regarding Felicity Ward trying way too hard. But besides not liking her over-the-top character portrayal, I didn't completely hate this version of "The Office".
I think it improved as it went along. Episode 7 was probably my favourite.
I really like the dry, laid-back humour of Australians and New Zealanders, so I enjoyed watching the performances of folks I am very familiar with - like Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh and Shari Sebbens. And others I am less familiar with, like Zoe Terakes, Lucy Schmidt and Steen Raskopoulos.
I think there is a lot of potential for character development here. So if there is another series, I will probably watch.
