This beautifully shot film entices the audience with a father-daughter relationship that wrestles with the balance of one's dreams. The story written and directed by the talented Catherine Dudley-Rose brings elements of parenthood and humanity to light by exploring the strengths and weakness of each character . . . and providing pieces of reality connecting us to the film. I especially loved watching and supporting a film with so many women in leadership crew roles as well as a young woman using her gifts and talents on screen.
Movie-making in the MidWest sometimes gets a bad wrap due to the perception that this part of the U.S. lacks what big cities like LA or New York offer . . . but it's a misconception . . . and Proximity is a true example of beautiful cinematography (Brett Frager), creative writing and directing (Dan Steadman), and talented actors. For local St. Louisans, you'll see some familiar news and radio personalities like Dan Gray, Kelly Jackson, Julie Tristan and even Cardinals player Adam Wainwright who brings the audience to laughter at every showing. The film is also an example of community working together to tell a story about making choices in love - something we can all relate to!
