I'm quite honestly gobsmacked to see the negative reviews on this film. I absolutely loved it. Granted, the premise felt somewhat personal to me as I have not only lost loved ones in similar circumstances, but also the relationship between me and my family is literally the same. Many times characters were saying a line and it was either something was said in the past in my family or I wish that it was said. But even without considering this confession, the writing is fantastic, the acting is phenomenal, the cinematography is gorgeous, and the score... wow, haunting and truly unique. The film isn't "scary" per se, it is full of dread. The final act is quite devastating too. It's utterly weird to me to come here and see how much people hating on this film, and only shows that how much I might be out of touch what people consider to be good horror these days. It is a horror film make no mistake, but at its core it is a poignant family drama, about grief, letting go, forgiveness and most importantly: sometimes the people who are closest to you will drag you down to hell with them.
