  • Bad on Many Levels

Barbie is 65. So am I. She is holding up much better than I am. The movie, however, was like a trip to the dentist for a root canal.

Costume and set decoration-maybe an honorable mention at the Oscars, but beyond that, this movie is more worthy of a Razzie than an Oscar. It fails as nostalgia, it fails as female empowerment, it is neither funny nor heartfelt If you want female empowerment, watch "RBG", "Norma Rae", "Hidden Figures" or "Erin Brokovich". I am sure that Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Reah Perlman. Ann Mirren and the rest of the lot will continue to have fruitful careers. Just please do not make a sequel! If you want to sell more pools, Corvettes and Dream Houses, make a few good commercials and air them near Christmas. There wasn't enough novociane to numb me during this presentation. Save your money and re-watch "Toy Story, "Despicable Me" or "Frozen." Don't say I didn't warn you........

  • Exceptional, Outstanding, Phenomenal!!

.As stated by others, I started to watch this series and I had to watch it all the way through in one binge! The Academy can save time and give the Best Actress Oscar to Anya Taylor-Joy for her portrayal of chess prodigy Elizabeth Harmon. I played 7th Board on my high .school chess team which meant I was not very good. The story is compelling and the characters are genuine. Through Beth's journey, we witness the trials and tribulations of obsession, isolation, dependency, friendship and sacrifice.

In The Queens' Gambit, I believe Netflix has created a classic film which rivals the likes of "To Kill a Mockingbird" Treat yourself to this amazing film!

  • Old Story With a Fresh Look

"Premature" is a film with a theme that has been brought to the screen many times. Nevertheless, the movie works because the story is timeless and the characters are as real as you and I. Zora Howard gives a standout performance as 17 year-old Ayanna. She is tough, yet vulnerable, a child and a woman, but most of all, a person whose growth is measured throughout the movie though her highs and lows of an unrequited love. Ernesto Green does a stellar job of directing as the rough and tumble, yet beautiful backdrop of New York City is intertwined with Ayanna"s friends, family and paramour.

It is always refreshing to watch a film where people of color can be who they are and there is no need to fall back on the mindless racial stereotypes too often presented in cinema. This is a nicely constructed act of storytelling and well worth one's time to sit back and watch the story unfold.
