We started with a grounded present episode but now it's follow-up takes us not only to the future but the end of the world. It's early days but it's the beginning and so far they getting everything right. It also feels wildly different to what Doctor Who was like before. It's very character-based over Monster of the Week and this works wonders. Much like the previous episode Rose makes a great audience surrogate and helps us explore this brand new world. It's exciting seeing aliens for the first with her.
The villain of this episode is good if not cheesy. It works for the story. It does come across as 2005 in look sometimes. It's also a bit goofy. Cassandra is a solid villain and a really interesting concept. The episode is written well even if the story is wrapped up fast in the third act but on dialogue, I completely and utterly forgot how funny "air in my lungs" bit is. I also forgot just how tense that last 15 minutes is, it's edge-of-your-seat entertainment and we are only two episodes in. There are absolutely gorgeously staged shots like at the end of the episode when Rose & The Doctor look out at Earth. I find it funny that a lot of the character work got reused in Space Babies but there it was a lot worse, especially the introduction to space & the phone sequence.
The Ninth Doctor Rewatch Project - September 2024.

On March 26 2005 my life didn't change with watching this, that goes to Vovage of the Damned in 2007. From that airing I watched for the first time, series 1-3. Now I'm rewatching the first series again for the at least fouth time.
"Run" The first words that the Ninth Doctor says to Rose & the audience and it perfectly captures the spirit of the show. The first introduction of the Doctor has arrived for a brand new audience and it hits the ground running. Its one of the best pilot shows I've seen. Rewatching it now sure the cgi is very early 2000s but I really enjoyed this. It's a look into what could be.
Christopher Eccleston a great ninth Doctor who as far as i'm concerned is newly regenerated. I do Every time I watch this I love the long take where he's explaining the Time War along that estate. Billie Piper is perfectly cast as the new companion, Rose Tyler, she makes a great audience surrogate. Did I know in 2007 that she would become my first crush? Nope. I still find Mickey annoying.
I think they hit everything that makes Doctor Who work for new / modern audiences in 2005 while taking what works about Classic Who.
I liked the use of the Autons ( a staple of Pertwee's era) and how they genuinely make manaquinns scary. Looking back they do come across as cheesy due to the 2000s effects, just go along with how plasticky Mickey looks..

Deserves a standing ovation. Jellyfish and Lobster is an absolutely incredible short film that everyone should watch once. Watchinng this formed so many emotions out of me that aI wasn't sure what to feel. I found the film to be a perfect blend of comedy and tragedy while being really beautiful. The film is edited perfectly and 20 minutes is the perfect length.
The cinematography, editing and sound really sells the film for me, along with the wonderful performances of the two leads, young and old. Well done Yasmin, proud of you.
