If you have not read the books you will be confused and bored. If you have read the books you will be infuriated and disgusted by this train wreck of an adaptation. The other 1 star reviews say it all. The elimination of 2 main characters, mostly poor casting, the addition of irrelevant and ridiculous scenes and characters make this series irredeemable. I'm sickened by the knowledge that AMC has the rights to adapt the beloved trilogy by Anne Rice. If only she had lived to put a stop to this abomination of her work. I was so excited when I heard that these books were going to be adapted into a series; the vast and complex story deserves no less than many seasons. However, by the end of Episode 3 I see that there will be no resemblance to Ms. Rice's original work. It's a terrible waste and a devastating blow to her legacy.
I've been watching episodes recorded on DVR and love the entire 4 seasons so far. But, little did I know, I was only watching roughly 18 minutes of the original 30 minute segments. There is 12 minutes or so of hilarity missing from these versions! Today I got all 4 seasons from the library and was able to view the entire 30 minutes on DVD (without commercials) and was shocked at how much content has been edited from the original. Now I'm excited to be able to view all the material I've missed. YAY Public Library!
Ignore the bad reviews. You've probably seen previous versions and read the book so you know the story. Don't be annoyed by diversions from the original; forget the past and enjoy this adaptation for what it is: a well-acted and visually beautiful film by the makers of Harry Potter and Paddington. I watched this on New Year's Day 2021 amid the chaos and carnage of covid -19 and found it comforting and uplifting.
