This movie ups the stake of the previous ones in the franchise. Sometimes when a movie is bigger it doesn't necessarily make it better but in this case, it is better than the previous films. The fight scenes are great as usual. It might even be better than the previous movies. The choreography is very creative and the actors do a great job at making the fights look real and entertaining. Saori Izawa is an amazing stuntwoman, she really brings the physicality to the role. She can pull off like insane stunts. Akari Takaishi who plays Chisato also had a noticeable improvement in her martial arts and action scenes. I really love how they blend martial arts styles like boxing, BJJ and wrestling with like a bit of karate. There was a fight against an assassin who uses like animal kung fu or praying mantis style which I especially liked. Once again Saori and Akari's chemistry is good like in the previous films.
The introduction of Sosuke Ikematsu's character is the best thing this franchise has done. He plays an assassin who's just as deadly if not even more deadly than the girls. At first you really see that they have met their match and feel how big of a threat he is. Sosuke is an amazing actor and can do the fight choreography really well too. The other cast of characters like Riku and Iruka were good too. Iruka surprisingly had a good amount of character development. This movie is fast paced and never did I felt bored or that it really slowed down.

Godzilla Minus One is not just a good monster movie but it also has great characters and themes. This is probably the best Godzilla movie I've seen yet. Ryunosuke Kamiki does a great job of portraying a character who's lost everything and suffering from PTSD and survivor's guilt. Not to get into spoilers but in the beginning, he does something which he wasn't supposed to come back from and because he came back, he felt like a failure and a disgrace. This movie does a good job of showing that survivor's guilt. He spends the rest of the movie trying to make up for his actions, believing that he was a coward before. I loved the way, he was fighting his own personal war despite the war being over. The movie does a good job of showing how high the stakes were and that the character are really in danger. It made me actually care about the characters. I didn't know if the main character was going to even make it out alive at the end. Minami Hamabe was good as the supporting role. She was like the carefree, happy-go-lucky type who gave hope to the MC. The chemistry between the MC and the minesweeper crew were good too. I really liked how the movie takes place during the 1940s right after WWII. It brings it back to the classic roots of Godzilla. It portrays how dark and gloomy that era of Japan was. There's also some symbolisms of like hope and anti-war, which was done well.
When I went into this movie, I was expecting a more action packed monster movie but it is not like that. It is more a of slow burn. The first 30 minutes are focused on politicians deciding what to do. It is mostly taking place in the offices and people sitting around talking. I can appreciate the themes in this movie such as use of nuclear power but it just not really my type of movie, it felt kinda slow. There is quite a big cast of characters in this movie and besides the main character and Kayoco, the Special Envoy for the US President I didn't really feel any attachment towards them. I didn't really find them relatable or really cared about them. I don't even think I remember most of their names or their roles. I like the design for Godzilla, especially the red glow. When Godzilla starts tearing apart the city and the destruction is going down, it is pretty awesome but then it kinda slows down again. I also like the way the humans were putting their resources together to find a way to combat Godzilla and when the plan comes together at the end it is satisfying to watch.
